saturday & sunday

Saturday was pretty hell: we started off at Land's End with lots of photos and bonhomie - others were setting off on the same schlepp, but none we talked to were trying it in 8 days - and ended up leaving at around 10.45.
Although we spend frequent holidays in Cornwall, I had no idea how hilly the place is until yesterday - its up-down constantly. The first accident came at about 20 miles when bob jessop gouged a hole in his leg (his bike fell on top of him - mine did today but i only hurt my wrist). Lunch was prodigious but after setting off to Devon it was clear that Cornwall was the softening up before the big test - up from the Tamar but the worst was an endless hill up from
Tavistock to the youth hostel which took more than an hour ending in the start of torrential rain. Actually, the view before the rain came down was breathtaking and the relief at finishing was outstanding. Yesterday evening, no-one talked. The upside was a good group of people and that everyone helps each other along.
Oh, we had a following wind almost all day.

Sunday - torrential rain all morning and a lovely afternoon. Hilly in the morning, flat until the ascent up to bristol airport - seeing Bristol was lovely and i felt quite homesick coming in.

Lovely to be home, briefly.

I started thinking i couldn't finish. Pretty sure I'll give it a good go now.
